A Long And Slow Path To Church Approval

“Many Christians hold that the bible teaches that same sex sexual relationships and changing gender identity are contrary to God's plan for humanity."
- Reverend Jonathan Coore

Society as a whole has become more tolerant of the LGBT community. A good albeit unexpected example of that is the world’s reaction to Olympic Gold medallist Bruce Jenner public announcement that he was becoming a woman.

In the UK, homophobia is also far less of a trouble than it was a decade or so ago.

However, same-sex marriage is still an issue. Yes, gays and lesbians living in Britain have been able to unite themselves before the town hall, but the Church of England still doesn’t recognize their union.

Meet Dollhouses' Little World At The V&A

Dolls and the houses they live in are often thought as either toys for little girls or part of an intricate collection possessed by a grown woman. Little do we know that behind these toys, which can come in so many different sizes, forms and material, may lie an invaluable story.

It’s something that the Small Stories exhibition, which opened in December 2014 at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood, strives to make adults remember and children appreciate.

“The museum’s collection of dolls’ houses is world renowned and very popular. We were inspired by them to make an exhibition that would show them off the best we could,” explains Alice Sage, the exhibition’s curator.

Is It Too Much To Ask To Be A Successful Mother?

We’re in 2015 and Hillary Clinton is running for the US presidency, so you might think that we’re over sexist mumbo-jumbo.

Yet, at the beginning of the month, Sarah Marquis, a successful lawyer, sued an NHS hospital because due to a wrong diagnosis she was left infertile. The only defence the hospital’s lawyer could come up with was that infertility helped her career.

Misogyny much?

People, Celebrities Are Jinxing Us (Possibly)!

Kim K going platinum blond wasn’t as stratospheric a news as the birth of Blue Ivy, but still birds twittered like crazy on Twitter, memes were thrown in for good measure and tabloids, beauty blogs and fashion magazines all gave their two cents of expertise on the TV-reality star’s new hair colour.

Whether you love or loathe Kim’s new locks, commenting on her new hairstyle won’t find you a job, patch up your lovelife or help you lose those extra pounds you promised to shed a decade ago. In any case, Kim will never know your opinion and even if she did, it wouldn’t matter much to her.

So why do we care so much, anyway?

The Muses Of Fashion Say The Future Is Online

Aleali May has more than 51,000 followers on Instagram. The statuesque, mocha caramel-toned model, image consultant and novice blogger is no stranger to the fashion world.

“I have been working in fashion since I was 19 years old.  I started working for Louis Vuitton in sales and progressed to RSVP Gallery in Chicago,” says the 22-year-old.

May also styled Kendrick Lamar for Kanye West’s Yeezus Tour back in 2013.

Nonetheless, the California based jack-of-all-trades admits that her self-titled fashion blog, which she only set up six months ago, did help to widen her contact list. “I have received many opportunities from my blog as people can now see a layout of who I am and what I’ve done,” she says.

Style On Point With Sophie Deedes

Literally everybody in Sophie Deedes’ family has their own business. Her parents are self employed, so is her brother. Even her grandparents were entrepreneurs.

“It’s in my blood!” she says joyfully.

So it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that in 2006, Sophie decided to become her own boss by launching High Heel Personal Shopping, the company in which she employs her skill as a personal stylist.

“I was always into fashion,” says the 37-year-old. “I loved it. I love shopping, I love to research it and I love to study it.”

Before sailing on her own, Deedes worked as a stylist for fashion brands such as Freda Design, Mulberry and Jenny Pakham. She also styled photo shoots for models’ portfolios.
